In the last 3-4 matches played in Chennai, we have witnessed a noticeable change in the pitch conditions. Initially, the wickets were more favorable for batting. However, as the tournament progressed, we had to adapt to the changing dynamics of the playing surface. Our strategy has revolved around rotating the strike efficiently and capitalizing on any loose deliveries.

Both Devon Conway and Faf du Plessis are exceptional players in their own right. Faf has always been an aggressive batsman right from the first ball, bringing immense firepower to the team’s batting lineup. On the other hand, Conway exhibits remarkable batsmanship skills, showcasing his finesse and technique at the crease.

Once the excitement around the Chepauk settles, it’s important to acknowledge that the IPL is more than just another final. With 10 teams now instead of 8, it has become an even bigger competition. The journey to the final is the result of two months of hard work and the collective efforts of everyone involved. Although our middle-order hasn’t had enough opportunities, Gujarat Titans are a formidable team with impressive chasing abilities. Therefore, our aim was to get them into the game.

Interestingly, losing the toss turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When Ravindra Jadeja gets favorable conditions, he becomes a formidable force to reckon with. His bowling played a crucial role in changing the game, and we shouldn’t overlook his valuable partnership with Moeen Ali. As a team, we strive to create an environment that allows fast bowlers to understand and leverage their strengths. We provide them with confidence and encourage them to explore their bowling abilities to the fullest. Our support staff, including Bravo and Eric, play an instrumental role in this process.

Adapting to the conditions, we continuously adjust the field placements based on the nature of the pitch. As a captain, I can be quite particular, often shifting fielders by a few feet to optimize our defensive strategies. However, I only ask one thing from my fielders: keep an eye on me. If a catch is dropped, there will be no reaction from me; I simply want them to stay focused and attentive.

As for my future plans, I have around 8-9 months to make a decision. It’s unnecessary to burden myself with that now. Regardless of my role, I will always be there for CSK, whether as a player or in any other capacity outside the field.
